F[requently] A[sked] Q[uestions]

THE WORLD
1. What setting is this game in?

The game is basically set in any world you choose. All the universes are connected in some way, so your character could easily catch a train or bus and ride to the next world.

However, for the purpose of plot, as of May 1, all new characters will wake up in the United States.

2. Wait, so, everything is one continent?

Sort of. It's all on one plane. Imagine if our planet Earth was suddenly bigger with more land masses. That's the kind of idea.

3. My character comes from a world that doesn't have technology/computers. How will they even know how to use the journals?

When your character wakes up, they'll automatically have some kind of computer around them that suits the character (a PDA, laptop, desktop, public library, what have you). They can easily ask someone what they are, how they work, etc. It's a little far-fetched, but it's just how it works.

4. What's the deal with DiaCorps? Why are they even around?

DiaCorps is an American based company that originally caused the disaster with the Universal Computer. Once they realized what they did, some of the higher-ups decided they wanted to take control of the other worlds as a source of power and all that.

At the moment, they're simply watching everyone, sending the Rahkshi out as information gatherers. Soon, however (read as: May 1), they'll be making changes to the world around them through the teleporters they set up. After these changes, everyone who goes through the teleporter will be transported somewhere in America, regardless of where they were wanting to go.

5. Teleporters? What the hell?

Yes, teleporters. As a way of showing they want to help repair the situation, DiaCorps has been speaking with most of the leaders of each world and implanting a teleportation system to make finding ways home easier. Most major American cities have them, and the capital city of each world has one (if it's been found by DiaCorps). It's simply a faster means of travel and more often than not, free.

6. So, when our characters arrive, where are they?

You can have them wake up in a world, or on the Trans atLantic. If they wake up in a world, they can get around easier. If they wake up on the Trans atLantic, then it would be easier for them to get answers. It just depends on what you want.

7. Just what is the Trans atLantic?

The Trans atLantic is like a bigger AmTrak owned by DiaCorps. They use it as a way through the worlds since they haven't quite gotten the hang of the teleporters just yet. It's more reliable than the other transportations if you're going from one world to the other, but it certainly takes longer.

If your character wakes up on it, the captain or car manager will find your character and give them any answers they need.
GAME PLAY
1. Do characters post in their personal journals? Or in the main community?

IN CHARACTER posts will be made in the community, [info]trans_lantic. It's easier to see activity, entries can be tagged for character name, and it's less hassle to deal with friends list adds.

The character's PERSONAL journal can be used for personal thoughts, plotting with other players, etc. But most activity will take place in the main community.

2. Am I required to have an instant messenger?

No, not at all. As long as we have some way of communicating with you outside the game, then you're fine. Sometimes it's just easier to have an Instant Messenger for logging.

3. ...Event days?

Yes, event days. They only happen once a month, and they won't be every month, so don't worry. There won't be any dorkish holiday type events, either. We try to come up with new ideas that we haven't seen in other games for events.

In other words, it's just a way to make things a little interesting and fun. ♥

. + WHY + .

♥ Why are you here? You're probably here because you heard about us from someone else. Or mayhaps you saw an ad in someone's journal. There's a number of ways you could have found your way here.

♥ Why are we here? Well, there's just as many reasons as to why we're here. But, mainly, we're here to just have some fun (as well as some plot).

- Plot [info]trans_lantic is a heavy plot-driven game. However, not all aspects of the story are pre-planned. We're just making it up as we go with very few things already set in place.

We're completely open for any ideas other players have, and they can be sent to us either by livejournal comments to our STORY post, or you can talk to us via AIM (mod information is listed in the userinfo).

Your characters aren't required to be involved in the plot, but you'll be seeing a lot of it once we have enough players to be a part of it.

- Fun Even if we are here mostly for plot, we're also here to have fun! Sure, bring some crack. We'll be having some "event" days (see: failed experiements) But it's not the sole-purpose of this game. There are plenty of other game communities devoted entirely to crack.

Event Days

Like some other games, we'll be having "event days". Days where things effect certain parts of certain worlds, or just certain characters, due to failed experiements of the scientists trying to fix the Universal Computer. How could this happen? They'll have a backup computer on to monitor the majority of the teleporters while they keep the Universal Computer system off. When they think they've got it fixed, they'll turn it back on. On "Event Days", the Computer isn't fixed, but as soon as it's turned back on, it sends out an electrical pulse/wave to all of the teleporters, affecting those who are walking through it. Or perhaps, it might be the local area around the facility. Or maybe anyone touching an electrical appliance. There's no telling with this technology.

. + Things We Are NOT + .

School/Drama RPG There are plenty of school/drama rpg based games out there. Just check out [info]fantasy_high or [info]cityofcross. Not very plot-driven, depending on the character. We're more of an open ended multi-verse, completely canon.

Your NORMAL Multi-Verse RPG Literally, they are EVERYWHERE. And, for the record, this game was being put together before February of 2006. Way before the other games started cropping up.

Okay, contradictions, ahoy. I knew I just got through saying this was a multi-verse game, but there are some little things that make us a little different. While other multi-verse games have a deity that merged the world, the world of [info]trans_lantic was changed by the hands of humans, by the technology of humans, and through the knowledge of humans.

Another thing that's different from other multi-verse games is rather than waiting for characters to develop evil intentions, we've already done that for you. A pre-established company, DiaCorps, is set in place for you. They won't be running the show (though they WILL be forcing some serious plot later on) nor will they be in charge of everything going on. Characters will be more than welcome to join the ranks of DiaCorps and work for them, they can choose to be against the company, or they can decide to ignore them completely.

Trapped on an Island/Planet/School/etc RPG Your characters aren't stuck in some remote location with no hope of escape. They can easily go back to their home world if they can find their way. They may just have to go through one or two other worlds first. If they decide they don't want to go home, hey, that's fine too. They can easily get along wherever they are.

. + What ARE You? + .

Trans atLantic is a mutli-fandom role-play with certain pieces of plot set into place where gamers of any fandom preference can come throw their muses around. [info]trans_lantic WILL be plot-driven. Characters probably will might die. Characters will have their heads messed around with should they get involved with DiaCorps' plans.

We don't expect this game to last forever, but we don't want it dying out before anything happens. Plot will take time and effort to develop, depending on the players and characters involved, as well as the ideas and input given by the players.

. + COMMUNITY + .

Since we are all playing together, having fun and putting ideas together, we want to be able to see this place grow not only as a game, but also as a community. In light of this, we will be having several different chats open for players to get together and talk about anything, roleplay in a neutral environment, that kind of thing.

transooc -- An OOC chat for general out of character discussions between the players. You can...well.. talk about anything you want in here! With the exception of adult topics, of course.

transcommons -- An area in any world you and whoever else decides. This can be in one specific location between two players, or a wide area between a lot of players. It just depends. But, the area is generally around the main portal of any world or city. The portals themselves are like small cities; there's usually plenty of stores and restaurants nearby for those going between worlds who are hungry or want to get used to the culture.

diacorps -- Are you working with DiaCorps? Then you may want to gather your conspirators and head in here every now and then to get the heads up on what the CEOs are planning. Mind you, this particular chat won't have much activity since they seem to keep quiet. But, as more characters join them, the more active they'll get.

. + Want to give us INPUT? + .

You have some ideas for things that could happen? Or maybe you have some thoughts on the game itself? Perhaps you've got some things to throw out for "event days". Or maybe you just think some things should be changed. By all means, TELL US. We're not all-powerful here, guys. We're human and we're playing through this game, just like you. Feel free to leave a comment or contact us via AIM, or, hell, email us. We'll reply when we get a chance and discuss things with you. We're always open for ideas.

Right now, the story of [info]trans_lantic is thus:

Sometime in the not-so-distant future, technology of our world has progressed wonderously. With the help of certain scientists and well-off patrons, teleportation has been developed. After a number of years of experimentation, the technology has been introduced to the mass public. Now, in every major city around the world (Miami, New York, Tokyo, London, etc), an international teleportation transport has been established.

However, in the research labs of the American Corporation, DiaCorps, something has been brewing. With new technology, there also comes problems. After ten years of the teleporters in use, several developers concluded they needed to be updated from the "old" technology. When the updates were complete, something went wrong. Horribly wrong. It was no act of God or a deity, but an act of man tampering with machines. The Universal Computer that monitors all activity of the teleporters went haywire, finding other dimensions and merging them into one giant continent on our world.

Gathering and realizing what had happened, DiaCorps formed its best scientists and researchers to search for a deeper reason as to why this happened. Why would such a well-planned computer go awry so suddenly? They are currently trying to figure out and fix what happened.

However, the board of directors of DiaCorp has other plans...

They now have two of the stronger "other world" beings, Greed and Martel to keep an eye some of the stronger beings the Board has found, waiting until the time is right...

. + CURRENTLY + .

As of now, the teleporters are stable. Scientists and executives have been working to put at least one teleportation device in each of the new worlds as they find them.

In city, there are still cars, buses, subways, and sidewalks that are encouraged to be used.

There is also now an International News Network broadcasted from the United States and can be seen on any Earth television and on a screen nearby each teleporter of the other worlds. Status reports on the "incident", as well as any other news will be broadcasted. (see also: [info]trans_lantic mod posts)
